Controversy erupted on Monday (November 6) after Sri Lanka batsman Angelo Mathews was Timed Out during their ICC World Cup 2023 match against Bangladesh in Delhi.

According to ICC World Cup 2023 Playing Conditions, the new batter should be ready within two minutes of the previous batter’s dismissal, to face the ball. Though Mathews had reached the crease, he was not ready to face the bowling as he wanted to change his helmet with the strap broken.
Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan, who was the bowler too, appealed and the on-field umpires Marais Erasmus and Richard Illingworth declared Mathews timed out.
