
Puducherry logs 14 fresh COVID-19 cases, overall tally rises
Puducherry logged 14 newcoronavirus cases during the last 24 hours taking the overalltally in the union territory to 39,882, a top Healthdepartment official said on Monday.
No fresh fatality was reported from any of the fourregions of Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam and thefatalities remained at 670, Director of Health and FamilyWelfare Services S Mohan Kumar said.
The 14 new cases were identified at the end of theexamination of 409 samples, he added.
The Puducherry region logged 13 of the fresh COVID-19cases and Karaikal added one while Mahe and Yanam regions didnot report any new infections in the last 24 hours ending 10AM Monday.
The infection tally went up to 39,882 with the freshcases, the Health department Director said.
There were no patients either in hospital quarantineor in home quarantine in the Yanam region, he added.
As many as 19 patients were discharged during the last24 hours from hospitals.
Puducherry had 171 active cases (83 in hospitals and88 in homes) and 39,041 patients had recovered and weredischarged so far, Mohan Kumar said.
The fatality and recovery rates were 1.68 per cent and97.89 per cent respectively, he added.
He said that 10,949 healthcare workers and 3,099frontline workers were vaccinated so far in Puducherry andoutlying regions.
The second phase of vaccination of senior citizens andthose above 45 years with comorbidities has so far covered3,195 beneficiaries, he added.
