IBM, AMD announce joint development agreement to advance
confidential computing for cloud, accelerate AI Bengaluru, Nov 12IBM and AMD on Thursday announceda multi-year joint development agreement to enhance and extendthe security and Artificial Intelligence (AI) offerings ofboth companies.
The joint development agreement would expand this visionby building upon open-source software, open standards, andopen system architectures to driveConfidential Computing inhybrid cloud environments, according to an IBM statement.
It would also support a broad range of acceleratorsacross high-performance computing (HPC), and enterprisecritical capabilities such as virtualisation and encryption.
“The commitment of AMD to technological innovation alignswith our mission to develop and accelerate the adoption of thehybrid cloud to help connect, secure and power our digitalworld,” saidDario Gil, Director of IBM Research.
Mark Papermaster, executive vice president and CTO, AMD,was quoted as saying: “AMD is excited to extend our work withIBM on AI, accelerating data center workloads, and improvingsecurity across the cloud.” Confidential Computing is a technology, enabled byhardware, that allows the data associated with a runningvirtual machine (VM) to be encrypted, including whileworkloads are running.
This capability helps prevent would-be attackers and badactors from accessing confidential information, even in theevent of a break-in, it was noted.
Confidential Computing for hybrid cloud unlocks newpotential for enterprise adoption of hybrid cloud computing, especially in regulated industries such as finance, healthcareand insurance, the statement added. PTI RSROH ROH
