Green firecrackers to have QR coding system


Bengaluru, Nov 13 : Green firecrackers sold thisyear would have a novel feature of quick response (QR) codingsystem to avoid manufacturing and sale of counterfeitproducts, the Karnataka government has said in its order.

The green firecrackers were introduced to check pollutionduring Deepavali.

The other fireworks with harmful chemicals can affect therespiratory system and prove fatal if a person is infected bycoronavirus.

According to the order, the green firecrackers packingcan be identified through the distinct green logo of CSIR-NEERI and PESO as well as a quick response (QR) codingsystem.

“The QR code is a novel feature incorporated on thefirecrackers to avoid manufacture and sale of counterfeitproducts. The feature will assist in differentiating greenfirecrackers from the conventional ones,” the order said.

The order of the Ministry of Environment, Forest andClimate Change reads that green firecrackers do not containharmful chemicals, thereby reducing air pollution due tofirecrackers. Besides, these fireworks are less harmful thanconventional firecrackers.

The green firecrackers are manufactured as per theformulation developed by Council of Scientific and IndustrialResearch-National Environmental and Engineering ResearchInstitute and product approval for new formulation is givenby the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation.

Green firecrackers would be available as sparklers,flowerpots, and maroons, which are made with reduction insize of shell, elimination of ash usage and reduced usage ofraw materials in the compositions.

The government had said that the green firecrackers wouldbe sold till November 16. PTI GMSNVG NVG
