Messi ‘suffered’ for many years, says wife Antonela after World Cup win
Lionel Messi’s wife Antonela Roccuzzo has shared an emotional post after Argentina won the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar on Sunday night (December 18).
In an epic final at the Lusail Stadium in Al Daayen, Argentina won its third World Cup trophy, thanks to Messi’s two goals during the 120 minutes of the contest and one more in the penalty shootout.

Argentina edged defending champion France 4-2 on penalties after it was 3-3 through extra time in front of 80,000-plus spectators.
After watching her husband’s heroics on the pitch, Messi’s wife Antonela Roccuzzo took to Instagram to post pictures with him and their three boys Mateo Messi Roccuzzo, Thiago Messi Roccuzzo, Ciro Messi Roccuzzo. They were in the stands to witness one of the greatest FIFA World Cup finals.
Antonela Roccuzzo said she felt “greater pride” for Messi and also spoke about how much the Argentine captain had “suffered” for so many years.

“I don’t even know how to start.. that greater pride we feel for you @leomessi Thanks for teaching us never to give up, we have to fight it to the end FINALLY YOU ARE THE WORLD CHAMPION, we know what you suffered for so many years, you wanted to achieve this!!! LET’S GO ARGENTINA (sic),” she wrote.
The 35-year-old Messi’s dream of winning a World Cup was fulfilled in his fifth attempt. He scored seven goals in Qatar and was pipped for the Golden Boot by just one goal by France’s Kylian Mbappe, who scored a hat-trick in the summit clash.

Besides winning football’s biggest prize, Messi also set several World Cup records including becoming the first man to win the Golden Ball on two occasions (2018 and 2022).
