TVK can’t form govt with Congress support alone: DMK’s TKS Elangovan

He says TVK would need AIADMK’s support also, and wonders ‘what instructions were given to the party by the BJP’

Chennai, May 5 (PTI) DMK leader T K S Elangovan on Tuesday claimed that actor-turned-politician Vijay’s TVK cannot come to power in Tamil Nadu with the support of the Congress alone.

He told PTI Videos that the Congress has only five MLAs and, therefore, TVK cannot form the government with its support.

The Tamil Nadu assembly elections were held on April 23. Vijay-led TVK emerged as the single largest party by winning 108 seats, while DMK and AIADMK got 59 and 47, respectively.

TVK needs 118 MLAs in the 234-member House to form the government.

Stating that TVK would also need the support of AIADMK, Elangovan said, “I do not know what instructions were given to the AIADMK by the BJP.” The DMK leader added that “if the AIADMK does not support Vijay, there will be a hung Assembly and fresh elections may have to be held.” Concerning the DMK’s defeat in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, he said, “There was something wrong, which we are looking into.” He added that coming to power is not the DMK’s only agenda and noted that the party has been in power for several decades.

Elangovan also alleged that the BJP does not want the DMK to come to power.

“The BJP tried to create mischief in Tamil Nadu because it cannot come to power,” he claimed. PTI
