BJP's Suvendu Adhikari accuses TMC of imposing 'Arabic culture' in Bengal
BJP leader alleges imposition of Urdu and “Arabic culture” in Bengal, pitches party’s plan to safeguard Sanatan heritage and women’s security
Kolkata, Apr 15 (PTI) Senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on the TMC government, accusing it of imposing "Arabic culture" on West Bengal while asserting the saffron party's commitment to protecting the state as a "homeland for Bengali Hindus."
Speaking at the launch of the 'Matri Shakti Bharosa Card' on the occasion of Poila Baisakh (Bengali New Year), Adhikari alleged that the current dispensation is systematically undermining the state's Sanatan heritage.
"We are witnessing an attempt to impose Urdu language and a culture that keeps women veiled. This is an assault on the land of Swami Vivekananda and Sri Chaitanya," he said.
Adhikari invoked the legacy of Syama Prasad Mookerjee, stating that it was because of his efforts that West Bengal remained a part of India in 1947.
"Jinnah wanted this land for Pakistan, but Mookerjee and Swami Pranavananda Maharaj ensured it stayed with India. On this New Year, we pledge to safeguard this Bengali Hindu homeland and permanently end atrocities like 'Love Jihad' against our mothers and sisters," Adhikari told the media.
Highlighting the party's 'Sankalp Patra' (manifesto), Adhikari described it as a document of "trust" aimed at restoring the "lost glory" of Bengal as the country's cultural capital.
The 'Matri Shakti Bharosa Card' is being pitched by the saffron party as a key guarantee for the security and empowerment of women in the state, countering the TMC's existing social welfare schemes.
Adhikari also referenced Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "guarantee" to rejuvenate the spiritual and cultural consciousness of the region, specifically mentioning the spiritual lineage of Dakshineswar and Kalighat-- the latter being the neighborhood that also houses the residence of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
