Congress-TVK alliance to continue for future Parliament and local body polls also
Parties say pact hinges on keeping out "communal forces" as TVK eyes potential alliances with Left and other parties, including a potential AIADMK outreach
The Congress has formally announced today (May 6) that they are extending “conditional support” to TVK. The party has extended its full support to TVK with just one condition that “any communal forces” should be kept out of this alliance.
Congress also said that the alliance with TVK will continue for future elections including for local bodies, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
The Congress has won five seats in the assembly elections. So, with the support of Congress, TVK is still falling short of five seats. Besides Congress, Left parties CPI and CPI(M) may also support the TVK.

There are news reports that said that TVK's Bussy Anand visited residence of Edappadi K Palaniswami which hints at possible talks to seek support.
According to a political commentator, the Congress has put forward a cleverly worded condition about the alliance being subject to TVK keeping "communal forces that do not believe in the Constitution of India" out of the coalition.
While this effectively rules out any truck with the BJP, it leaves a window open for other NDA constituents from the state, including perhaps even the AIADMK, in case Left parties, IUML, VCK, DMDK choose to stick on with the MK Stalin/DMK-led front, he added.
For a secular, progressive govt
In a statement issued by the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee, this alliance between the TVK and the TN Congress will strive to bring back Kamaraj's "glory days" of TN, with a strong commitment to Periyar's social justice ideals and BR Ambedkar's constitutional ideals in the years and decades to come.
Further, it said that this alliance founded on mutual respect, appropriate share, and shared responsibility between the two parties is not only for the formation of this government, but also for future elections to the local body organisations, the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. And, Vijay and Rahul Gandhi jointly pledge to respect this historic verdict of the people of TN for a secular and progressive government, and to fulfill the dreams and promises of the people, especially the youth of TN.
