MDMK to contest TN's Erode constituency on symbol allotted by EC
Rejecting the appeal of the DMK that its alliance partners contest the Lok Sabha polls on the party’s rising sun symbol, the MDMK on March 21 declared that it would contest the Erode constituency on a symbol allotted to it by the Election Commission.
In a statement, MDMK’s general secretary Vaiko said that A Ganeshamurthi, who is contesting the Erode constituency, as an MDMK candidate, would do so on a symbol that would be allotted by the returning officer and not the DMK’s symbol.
Earlier, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) party, which is also a part of the DMK-led alliance, agreed to field its general secretary T Ravikumar in the rising sun symbol in Villupuram while party leader Thol. Thirumavalavan would contest, the Chidambaram seat, on the pot symbol allotted to his outfit.
Similarly, Kongunadu Makkal Desiya Katchi’s (KMDK) general secretary E R Eshwaran contesting the Namakkal constituency, as a constituent of the DMK-led alliance, would fight using the DMK’s symbol.
Apart from the MDMK, Communist Party of India (CPI) and Communist Party of India (Marxist), each contesting in two Lok Sabha constituencies and the Congress, contesting in 10 constituencies, would be fielding their candidates on their own respective party’s symbols.
