IPL 2025 mega auction likely to be held in Riyadh on November 24, 25

With all the 10 franchises announcing their retentions for IPL 2025, the focus now shifts to the mega players’ auction.

According to news agency ANI’s report citing sources on Monday (November 4), the IPL 2025 auction is likely to be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from November 24 to 25.

With the IPL 2024 retention deadline ending on October 31, all the 10 teams submitted their list of players. In all, 46 players were retained.

The big news that came out on retention deadline day was that MS Dhoni will play in IPL 2025. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have retained Dhoni as an “uncapped” player for Rs 4 crore.

With a total salary cap of Rs 120 crore available at the mega auction for each team to form a squad of 25 players, franchises were allowed to retain up to six players (Retention/Right to Match) with a maximum of five capped internationals and up to two uncapped Indian players.

Defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders and inaugural season champions Rajasthan Royals have opted for full retentions, securing six players each. Five teams – CSK, Gujarat Titans (GT), Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Mumbai Indians (MI), and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) – have retained five players.

Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals (DC), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), and Punjab Kings (PBKS) have retained four, three, and two players, respectively.

With Rs 110.5 crore in hand, PBKS head into the highly anticipated action-packed mega auction with the largest purse.

Among the big players who were released and will be part of the IPL 2025 auction include Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Glenn Maxwell, Jos Buttler and others.

No England players were retained for IPL 2025 and it will be interesting to see who all will be part of the auction.
