'We are warning you:' Video shows Delhi cop telling Markaz members

After the organisers of Tableeghi Jamaat congregation blamed government planning amid lockdown, Delhi police on Tuesday (31 March) released a video where they are seen warning the senior members of Nizamuddin Markaz to clear out Markaz and instructing them on the lockdown guidelines.

The video released is of March 23, 2020, claims Delhi police.

“We are recording this video and there is a reason for this. We have clear instructions. We are asking you to follow the rules for your safety. There is no personal agenda here,” says a police official to Markaz members in the video.

“If the instructions are not followed, I will be forced to take legal action,” the police official adds.

He also shows them what he says is a notice to vacate the area.

The Markaz members tell the police that around 1,000 people from various parts of the country are still at the Markaz and that others have been evacuated. “Everybody wants to leave but the borders are sealed,” says a senior Markaz member.

On Wednesday (April 1), Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said 2,361 people had been evacuated from Nizamuddin Markaz after the 36-hour exercise amid coronavirus pandemic. Of these people, 617 have been admitted to hospital while the rest have been quarantined.

“Medical staff, administration, police, DTC staff worked together in this 36-hour operation, putting their lives at risk. Hats off to them,” Sisodia tweeted.

An FIR has been registered against seven people in relation with the Nizamuddin incident.
