The growth in COVID-19 cases in India has been linear, and not exponential, due to the success of some strategies that the country had implemented much before the developed nations like the UK and US, the central government said in a press briefing on Thursday (April 23).
India’s recovery rate of coronavirus cases has also been rising, reaching close to 20 per cent, the government noted. This means 4,257 people out of the total 21,393 active cases have recovered till now, including the 388 patients who recovered yesterday.
According to an analysis of the country’s containment strategy, which was presented during the health ministry briefing on Thursday, eight new districts have been added to the list where no coronavirus cases were reported in the last 14 days.
Now, the number of such districts have gone up to 78, said Luv Agarwal, joint secretary, health ministry. The official further pointed out India has reported 1,409 new COVID-19 positive cases in the last 24 hours.

Government officials explained they have been able to cut down transmissions, minimise the spread and increase India’s doubling rate. The testing rate too has been consistently ramped up across the country.
Moreover, the percentage of COVID-19 positive cases as compared to the number of tests conducted in the country has stayed the same in the last 30 days. This suggests there was no exponential jump in coronavirus infections during this period.
