The novel coronavirus cases in India stood at 195 after 22 fresh cases were reported from various parts of the country on Friday (March 20).

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the 195 cases include 32 foreigners and four deaths.

Earlier, Maharashtra health minister Rajesh Tope said the state’s coronavirus count increased to 52, the highest in the country, after two new cases from Mumbai and one from Pune were reported.

Four more persons tested positive for the virus in Lucknow, taking the total number of cases in Uttar Pradesh to nine.

Meanwhile, Odisha and West Bengal reported their second cases of COVID-19 on Thursday.

The patient from West Bengal, a resident of Kolkata had a recent travel history to the United Kingdom and has been admitted to the Beliaghata ID Hospital.

In Odisha, the affected patient had reportedly returned from a COVID-19-affected country and later tested positive for the virus.

“Today 14 samples were tested at RMRC (Regional Medical Research Centre) Bhubaneswar out of which one is positive for #COVID2019,” the Health and Family Welfare Department tweeted on Thursday night.

COVID-19 cases in Telangana rose to 16 with three more people testing positive on Thursday.

Of the three cases reported on Thursday, one had returned from Dubai and the other two from London, according to official information. “Till date 16 COVID-19 positive cases have been reported in Telangana. Of the 16 cases, one has been discharged and kept under self-isolation at home,” a late night bulletin said on Thursday.

In Andhra Pradesh, a Saudi-returned man tested positive for the disease on Friday, taking the state’s tally to three.

A 69-year-old woman, who recently returned from the United Kingdom, tested positive for coronavirus, taking the total number of cases in Punjab to three. “The woman, a resident of Phase 3 A in Mohali, has tested (positive) for coronavirus,” India today quoted Mohali Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan as saying to PTI.

In Gujarat, 2 people from Ahmedabad and 1 from Vadodara were tested positive for coronavirus. The person in Vadodara has a history of travel to Spain, while two people in Ahmedabad had travelled to Finland and New York.

Jayanti Ravi, Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, said, “The person from Rajkot, who tested positive for the virus yesterday, had landed at Mumbai Airport and travelled from Mumbai to Jamnagar by train.”

Assuring that all the five are stable, she said, “They were initially on ventilator but no they are stable and we are closely monitoring them.”

Two legislators in Kerala are under self-quarantine after they came in contact with an infected person in Kasargod in north Kerala. District authorities are preparing a flow chart of the patient who was found to be coronavirus positive on Thursday, Hindustan Times reported.
