COVID cases cross 32-lakh mark in India; recovery rate increases to 76%
India crossed the 32-lakh mark in COVID-19 cases as the country reported 49,947 fresh cases as of 9.00 pm on Tuesday (August 25). The total number of cases increased to 32,14,828, while the death toll rose to 58,918 with 372 new fatalities. The recovery rate has increased to 76 per cent with total recoveries of 24,42,724.
Maharashtra reported 10,425 fresh cases of coronavirus infection, taking the states case tally to 7,03,823. With this, cases in Maharashtra crossed the seven lakh-mark. The state had crossed the six lakh-mark on August 17. The death toll in the state rose to 22,794 with 329 fatalities being reported during the day.
Tamil Nadu reported 5,951 fresh coronavirus cases, taking the tally to 3,91,303 while 107 fatalities pushed the death toll to 6,721. Recoveries eclipsed new infections today with 6,998 patients getting discharged from various hospitals and 3,32,454 people have so far got cured and active cases stood at 52,128.
The coronavirus infection positivity rate jumped past 11 per cent in Andhra Pradesh as 9,927 fresh cases were reported, taking the overall tally to 3,71,639. The COVID-19 toll in the state has now shot up to 3,460 and the total number of cured to 2,78,247, leaving 89,932 active cases, according to a bulletin.
Karnataka reported a sharp spike of 8,161 new COVID-19 cases and 148 related fatalities, taking the total number of infections to 2,91,826 and the death toll to 4,958. The day also saw 6,814 patients getting discharged. Of the 8,161 fresh cases reported today, 2,294 cases were from Bengaluru Urban alone.
Delhi recorded 1,544 fresh coronavirus cases, taking the tally in the city to over 1.64 lakh, while the death toll from the disease mounted to 4,330. As many as 17 fatalities have been recorded in the last 24 hours. On Monday, the daily cases count was 1,061 and 13 deaths were reported. The active cases tally on Tuesday rose to 11,998.
With 72 more people succumbing to COVID-19 in Uttar Pradesh, the death toll due to the disease rose to 3,059, while 5,124 fresh cases took the infection tally to 1,97,388. Of the 72 deaths, 18 were reported from Kanpur, 12 from Lucknow, seven from Gorakhpur, four from Allahabad, and three each from Varanasi and Siddharth Nagar.
Gujarat’s COVID-19 tally rose to 88,942 on Tuesday with the addition of 1,096 new cases, the state health department said. With the death of 20 more COVID-19 patients, the toll rose to 2,930, it said. So far, a total of 71,261 people have recovered from the infection in Gujarat with 1,011 patients getting discharged on Tuesday.
With 701 new cases, the COVID-19 tally in Jammu and Kashmir climbed to 33,776, while 14 more fatalities were reported, officials said on Tuesday. Officials said 11 deaths were reported from Kashmir and three persons died in Jammu region in the past 24 hours till 5 PM on Tuesday The death toll in the union territory has now reached 638.
