Amit Shah tests positive for COVID-19, Babul Supriyo to isolate himself

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Sunday that he has tested positive for COVID-19 and that he is being admitted to a hospital following the advice of doctors.


Union Home Minister Amit Shah (55) said on Sunday (August 2) that he has tested positive for COVID-19 and that he is being admitted to a hospital following the advice of doctors.

He tweeted in Hindi, “On getting the initial symptoms of corona, I got the test done and the report came back positive. My health is fine, but I am being admitted to the hospital on the advice of doctors.”

He added, “I request that all of you who have come in contact with me in the last few days, please isolate yourself and get your inquiry done.”

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and several chief ministers, including Arvind Kejriwal (Delhi), Edappadi K. Palaniswami (Tamil Nadu), Mamata Banerjee (West Bengal), Pramod Sawant (Goa), Bhupesh Baghel (Chhattisgarh) and Naveen Patnaik (Odisha), wished Shah a speedy recovery.

Meanwhile, MoS Babul Supriyo said he had met the Union home minister day before and he had been advised to isolate himself. “I had met Honble HM Shri @AmitShah ji day before in the evening • I am advised by Doctors to confine myself, away from my family members, for the next few days with a test to be done soon • Shall abide with all precautionary measures as per Rules & Protocol,” he tweeted.
