Tusshar Kapoor receives Rs 5 crore extortion threat from alleged Bishnoi gang member
The caller allegedly claimed links to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and identified himself as Harry Boxer, but a voice sample comparison raised doubts about his identity
Bollywood actor Tusshar Kapoor allegedly received an extortion call demanding Rs 5 crore from a person claiming to be a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. But investigators are suspicious that the call might be a hoax following a preliminary investigation.
According to an NDTV report, quoting police sources, the caller claimed to be "Harry Boxer", an alleged member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. When Kapoor received the extortion call, he immediately informed Mumbai Police, which transferred the case to the Anti-Extortion Cell and the Crime Branch.
The report further stated that when the technical team of the Crime Branch tested the audio recording and compared it with the official voice sample of Harry Boxer in its database, the samples did not match. This made their suspicion stronger that the caller was impersonating Harry Boxer to intimidate the actor and extort money from him.
Police probe caller's identity
The investigators are now in the process of identifying the caller and tracing the source of the threatening call. Police suspect that the caller may have invoked the gang's name to frighten Kapoor and pressure him into paying the demanded money.

The report further stated that Kapoor filed a complaint about a week ago. No FIR has been registered in the case so far.
Threat follows Tiger Shroff attack
The threat call received by Kapoor comes weeks after gunmen opened fire at a vehicle carrying actor Tiger Shroff in Mumbai’s Juhu area on October 18. Shroff escaped unhurt, but his driver and an autorickshaw driver sustained bullet injuries.

Three men on a motorcycle allegedly carried out the attack before fleeing. A social media post and an audio message attributed to Anil Pandit and Harman Sandhu claimed responsibility in the name of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
The messages also warned people in the film industry against working with actor Salman Khan. Mumbai Police initially said they were verifying the claims. Subsequent reports identified Pandit as an alleged gang operative and said police had arrested 11 people in connection with the shooting. The Crime Branch later invoked the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) in the case.
