Maharashtra TET paper leak: Alleged mastermind arrested in Bihar

The alleged mastermind in the Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) paper leak case, Bijendra Kumar Gupta, was arrested from Bihar on Saturday (July 25) morning.

Gupta will be taken to Maharashtra to be produced in a court in Thane’s Bhiwandi. He had been on the run for three weeks. One of his associates, Indrajit Singh, was also reportedly arrested in Bihar, taking the total arrests in the case to 14.

Gupta was allegedly involved in several paper leaks across the country. He was out on bail when he allegedly leaked the TET paper.

Paper leaked from printing press

The paper leak came to light on June 27, a day before the TET exam, when DCP Pawan Bansod received specific information.

Subsequently, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was set up to probe the case and it arrested three employees of an Agra-based printing press on July 5 for allegedly leaking the TET exam paper during the printing process.

The trio has been identified as Nareshkumar Puranchand Mahore (35), Sanjaykumar Sureshchandra Chandra (44), and Babulal Narayansingh Kushwaha (45).

One yet to be arrested

It was Mahore who allegedly passed on the question paper to former printing press employees Sanjay Kumar Sharma and Sonu Kumar. The duo allegedly supplied the leaked paper to Gupta.

Gupta’s wife Suman is also an accused in the case and was earlier arrested from Bihar’s Samastipur. Gupta had allegedly finalised the sale deal through Kapil Dahiya, another accused who has been arrested. The alleged buyer was a Pune resident who is still on the run. This person was allegedly in touch with close to 50 aspirants who allegedly wanted to buy the leaked paper.

The police reportedly seized three live cartridges from one of the accused, making the case even more significant.
