Bombay HC issues summons to CM Fadnavis on plea challenging Assembly poll win

Gudadhe alleged in his petition that there were procedural lapses and corrupt practices in Fadnavis’ election from the Nagpur South West Assembly seat

The Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court on Thursday (April 17) issued summons (notice) to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in a poll petition, filed by his electoral rival, challenging his 2024 win from the Nagpur South West assembly seat.

The petition was filed by Congress' Prafulla Vinodrao Gudadhe, who had lost to Fadnavis by a margin of 39,710 votes.

Gudadhe alleged in his petition that there were procedural lapses and corrupt practices in Fadnavis’ election from the Nagpur South West assembly seat. He urged the court to declare Fadnavis' win "null and void”.

"The bench of Justice Pravin Patil issued summons to CM Fadnavis returnable on May 8," Gudadhe's lawyer Pavan Dahat told PTI.

Mandatory provisions not followed

Gudadhe's lawyers Dahat and AB Moon further alleged that several mandatory provisions were not followed during the Maharashtra Assembly elections held in November last year.

The Mahayuti stunned the MVA alliance by sweeping the election winning 230 seats in the 288-member Maharashtra assembly, following which Fadnavis became Chief Minister.

Meanwhile, the High Court also issued summons to BJP MLA Mohan Mate from Nagpur West and Kirtikumar Bhangdia from Chimur seat in Chandrapur district in similar election petitions.
