Telangana polls: KCR wanted to join NDA but I did not let him, says Modi
While addressing a rally in the poll-bound state, the prime minister also said that he doesn’t care if the BJP wins the elections or not, but he would not betray the trust of the people
Launching a blistering attack on Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao at a rally in Nizamabad in poll-bound Telangana, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday (October 3) made a revelation, saying that the BRS leader wanted to join the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) after the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections but he did not let him in “due to his deeds”.
Modi was talking at a public programme after the launch of several projects in Telangana, including phase 1 of the Telangana Super Thermal Power Project. Taking a dig at KCR, Modi said without mincing words, “When the BJP won 48 seats in the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation election, KCR needed support. Before this election, he used to welcome me at the airport, but later suddenly, he stopped doing so. After the Municipal elections, KCR came to meet me in New Delhi and said that he wanted to join the NDA. He also asked me to extend support to him. I told him (KCR) that due to his deeds Modi cannot be associated with him...”
During his address, Prime Minister Modi attacked both the BRS and the Congress for their dynastic character and corruption during their rule, turning the ‘loktantra’ (demorcracy) to ‘loottantra’ (lootocracy), according to media reports.
On his relations with the CR in a social media post, Modi went on to claim that the BRS leader doesn’t look him in the eyes. “There's a reason KCR doesn't look me in the eye! I did not agree to KCR’s request to join the NDA in exchange for BJP's support in GHMC. There's no question of supporting BRS! I also warned him against passing the baton to KTR. After all, we are a democracy, not a monarchy!” Modi wrote on X.
The KCR-led BRS won 56 seats in the 2020 Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections, while the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) won 43 seats and the BJP 48 seats.
Modi alleged that the state government had been indulging in looting the funds the Centre sends to it for people’s welfare. Modi also said that he doesn’t care if the BJP wins the elections or not, but he would not betray the trust of the people
The BRS has been ruling Telangana ever since the state came into being in 2014.
