Telangana: Actor-politician Vijayashanthi quits BJP, may join Congress ahead of polls
The BJP had not only denied her party ticket for the upcoming assembly polls but also not included her in the list of the star campaigners
Actor-turned-politician and senior BJP leader Vijayashanti on Wednesday resigned from the party. She is likely to join the Congress during Rahul Gandhi’s visit to poll-bound Telangana.
According to party sources, she has sent her resignation letter to the party’s state unit president, G Kishan Reddy, on Wednesday evening. She was reportedly unhappy with the party affairs in the state and was staying away from the party activities. The BJP had not only denied her party ticket for the upcoming assembly polls but also not included her in the list of the star campaigners.
Earlier, media reports said she would quit the party along with former MLA Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy and former MP G Vivek Venkatswamy. Though the duo left the party, she stayed back. However, with her being totally sidelined by the party leadership, she too decided to leave the party. Congress sources said the party leaders already had a word with Vijayashanti and they have also extended her an invitation to join the party.
