The Telangana government is set to launch the Indiramma Jeevitha Bima scheme across the state on June 2.
Announced as a landmark social welfare milestone to mark Telangana State Formation Day, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka has emphasized that the scheme is designed to serve as an immediate financial shield for families losing a primary breadwinner.
The objective of this government scheme is to provide life insurance coverage of Rs 5 lakh to Rs 1.15 crore families across the state, transcending barriers of caste and religion, and without any distinction between the rich and the poor, Vikarmarka said in a post on X.
He also termed it as a “historic scheme” which would be a gift to the people on Telangana formation day. The state government has earmarked an estimated budget allocation of around Rs 4,000 crore for this scheme.
Benefits of the scheme
- Eligible families will receive Rs 5 lakh life insurance coverage under the scheme.
- Families do not need to pay any insurance premium. The Telangana government will bear the entire cost.
- The scheme is expected to cover poor, middle-class, and other eligible families without income discrimination.
- If the earning member of a family dies unexpectedly, the insurance amount can help the family manage their needs.
Who is eligible?
- Applicants must be permanent residents of Telangana.
- The family should possess a valid Telangana ration card.
- All income groups may be eligible.
- Families from all communities may apply.
- Aadhaar-linked identity details may be required.
Further detailed guidelines may be announced officially after launch.
Documents needed
To avail themselves of the scheme, applicants should keep in hand documents such as Aadhaar card, Telangana ration card, mobile number, bank account details, residence proof, death certificate (for a claim), and a passport size photograph.

As of now, detailed registration guidelines have not been provided by the government. However, it is expected that online application through the official Telangana welfare portal, and offline application through Mee Seva centres across Telangana will be possible.
Other initiatives
Vikaramarka, who is also the finance and energy minister, said the government will also allocate solar power plants and increase interest-free loans for women's self-help groups to a total of Rs 1 lakh crore to empower women entrepreneurs.

The State Cabinet has also resolved to complete the Indiramma houses, the construction of which began under the Congress government but currently remain stalled at the wall or roof-slab stage, and gave its approval for the construction of more houses for a total of 250,000 poor families.
