Trichy: Air India flight lands safely after technical snag

According to Trichy airport director, the aircraft faced a hydraulic failure


Passengers on the Trichy-Sharjah Air India Express flight (IX613) had a harrowing time on Friday evening (October 11) as their aircraft was forced to hover over the airport for nearly two hours after a technical snag was detected mid-flight. However, the flight landed safely after hours of tension.

According to reports, there were 141 passengers on board. Many users on X (formerly Twitter) have posted about their experiences.

According to Trichy airport director, the aircraft faced a hydraulic failure, and more than 20 ambulances and fire tenders were placed at the airport.

"Air India flight from Trichy to Sharjah faced a technical problem (Hydraulic failure) and is rounding in air space to decrease the fuel before landing at Trichy airport. More than 20 Ambulances and fire tenders are placed at the airport to make sure no big accident occurs," Airport Director Gopalakrishnan said, according to news agency ANI.

Flightradar24, which tracks air traffic in real time, said it was a "serious issue but routine".

"Serious, but routine. There are procedures in place both on the aircraft and on the ground for such an occurrence in order to maximize the likelihood of a positive outcome," it posted on X.

According to local media reports, the aircraft has experienced a landing gear issue.
