Four of family hacked to death in TN; EPS slams ‘puppet’ DMK govt

Initial probe reveals that three men attacked Senthil Kumar when he told them not to drink liquor outside his shop; family members got killed trying to save him

One person was detained on Monday (September 4) after three persons allegedly hacked to death four members of a family at Palladam of Tamil Nadu’s Tiruppur district because of an old enmity.

However, relatives and friends of the deceased refused to accept the bodies until all the culprits were brought to book. They staged a demonstration at Palladam until senior police officials rushed to pacify them.

Tamil Nady Opposition Leader EK Palaniswami condemned the “puppet” DMK government in an X (Twitter) post. “Every day since this DMK government took office, our state has become a state of murder, robbery and murder, law and order in Tamil Nadu and the capital of drugs. It is a shame that the Chief Minister, who is supposed to fix this, is focusing his full attention on empty advertisements,” he wrote.

“I strongly condemn the puppet chief minister who has no clue to save the people while keeping the police department in hand. I urge the DMK government to stop using the police department only as its official department, give full independence to the police department and maintain law and order,” he added.

How it happened

The deceased, identified as Senthil Kumar, his mother Pushpavathi, cousin Mohan, and another relative Rathinambal, were found dead with several slash injuries on their bodies near the house located close to Senthil Kumar’s shop in Kallakinaru, Palladam, said police.

Their bodies were shifted to the government hospital, Palladam, for post-mortem.

Initial inquiries by the police have revealed that a man named Venkatesh, who worked as a driver for Senthil Kumar, started drinking liquor along with two others near Senthil Kumar’s shop on September 3 night. Senthil told them to leave the spot, a senior police official said.

However, the trio allegedly surrounded Senthil and started slashing him. Hearing his cries for help, his cousin, mother, and another relative rushed to his rescue but were hacked to death along with him, the policeman said.
