EPS rules out immediate return of TTV Dhinakaran to AIADMK
AIADMK chief says Dhinakaran now heads his own party, making re-induction a complex issue, even as cadre seek his return to bolster the party in the Cauvery Delta and southern districts
Chennai, Jul 6 (PTI) AIADMK chief Edappadi K Palaniswami on Monday calmly handled a suggestion from party functionaries to take back expelled leader T T V Dhinakaran, saying he now heads his own political party.
Palaniswami, who commenced the crucial meeting with the office bearers of 10 districts from today to review the party’s strength and structure was asked to re-induct the AMMK general secretary who was expelled from the party in 2017.
A year later, Dhinakaran had floated the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam. He joined the NDA and had solidly backed the AIADMK in the 2026 Assembly election.
Responding to the proposal during the interaction with the functionaries from Thanjavur and Sivaganga districts at the AIADMK state headquarters, Palaniswami noted that Dhinakaran was currently leading his own political party and incidated that any such merger remained highly complex.
"At the meeting, a majority of us told our general secretary that Dhinakaran should be taken back into the party fold to strengthen the AIADMK in the Cauvery Delta region and the southern districts," a functionary from Thanjaur told reporters.
This development comes at a time when several former AIADMK ministers and legislators quit the party and joined the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. The high-profile depatures has caused a serious setback to the leadership.
Palaniswami will interact with the party functionaries from Tirupattur, Ranipet, Tiruvallur, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Erode, Vellore, and Tiruchirappalli till July 9. PTI
