Kerala’s Lulu Mall Pakistan flag controversy: Woman employee withdraws resignation
Athira Nampyathir is set to resume her role as the Marketing and Communications Manager on Saturday.
The Public Relations Department of Lulu Mall has confirmed that Athira Nampyathiri, who resigned amid false claims that the Pakistani flag was displayed higher than the Indian flag at Kochi Lulu Mall, has withdrawn her resignation. She is set to resume her role as the Marketing and Communications Manager on Saturday (October 14).
Athira had been suspended as a disciplinary measure following the misleading information spread by Hindu extremists but chose to resign in protest.
After dedicating a decade to the company, Athira expressed her dismay on LinkedIn, highlighting the impact of false propaganda and social media sensationalism on her career.
Users who earlier circulated photos on X (former Twitter) claimed that Pakistan’s flag was bigger in size and placed higher than the Indian flag. Many users started commenting on the pictures.
Fact-checker Mohammed Zubair posted images of the flags at the Lulu Mall and said all flags were of the same size, and from some angles a country’s flag looked bigger.
“All the flags were of the same size and placed on the same level. If you look from another angle, the other flag looks bigger and placed higher,” he wrote.
Athira had earlier written on LinkedIn that the claims were “baseless falsehoods” and “social media sensationalism”.
She had urged everyone to refrain from “propagating hated” and involve in activities that result in ruining careers and lives of individuals.
