Congress readies to hold pro-Palestine rally in Kerala

Only the Congress is capable of correcting the policies of the BJP government which has adopted a pro-Israel stance, party leader K Sudhakaran said

After the Muslim League and the CPI(M), the Congress is preparing to organise a huge pro-Palestine rally at Kozhikode in Kerala next week as part of efforts to oppose the Modi government’s pro-Israel stance.

Kerala Congress chief K Sudhakaran said the Congress was the only political party capable of rectifying the Central government’s bias towards Israel in its war against Gaza.

Sudhakaran said on Thursday that more than 50,000 Congress activists would take part in the rally of November 23.

"All secular, democratic believers will attend the Congress-led rally at Kozhikode beach," he said in a statement here.

Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal will inaugurate the show of strength.

The Congress move follows the ongoing pro-Palestine campaign by the ruling CPI(M) in Kerala.

"The Congress is the only organisation capable of correcting the policies of the BJP government which has adopted a pro-Israel stance," Sudhakaran said.

He highlighted the Congress' historical support for the Palestinian people, contrasting it with what he said was the CPI(M)'s "opportunistic campaigns” over the Palestinian people.

BJP counters

Meanwhile, the BJP-led NDA has decided to hold protest marches in four places in Kerala, accusing the pro-Palestine parties of advocating "communal and pro-terrorism" policies.

A BJP spokesperson said the rallies would be held in Kozhikode, Thrissur and Ernakulam and a public meeting will take place in Pathanamthitta.
