Sacked driver arrested in Karnataka government officer’s murder
Prathima was reportedly annoyed with the driver because he was believed to be leaking critical information and movements of officials of the mines department
A driver sacked for allegedly leaking information about a Karnataka government woman officer’s tours has been arrested for her brutal murder in Bengaluru.
Prathima KS was found strangled and with her throat slit at her home in Bengaluru’s Subramanyapora area on Sunday (November 5) morning, leading the police to launch a crackdown that led to the arrest of the suspect, Kiran.
Prathma, 45, was a geologist with Karnataka’s Mines and Geology Department. Her husband and son were in Shivamogga district, some 300 km away.
According to Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayanand, Prathima had sacked Kiran about a week back.
Another police officer was quoted as saying in media reports that Prathima was reportedly annoyed with the driver because he was believed to be leaking critical information and movements about officials of the mine department.
Kiran reportedly did not mend his ways even after being pulled up by Prathima, leading to his sacking, the officer said.
A report in NDTV said that the driver had confessed to the police that he killed the officer.
Knowing she lived alone at her flat, the driver reportedly sneaked into her house on Saturday night and murdered her.
A senior officer from the Environment Department described Prathima as a "very dynamic lady".
