Why prices for milk products are increasing in Karnataka?

Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said that the milk price hike would benefit nearly 11 lakh farmer families across the state. Also, currently, milk is being diverted to states where they could get higher prices, however, with the price hike, we could expect to see milk supplies being diverted back to Karnataka.

Interacting with media persons on November 2, Shivakumar said that there has been a demand to increase the prices further.

“There is definitely anger among people. Nobody speaks when the price of bottled water increases because the GST goes to the Centre. The increase in milk prices will help lakhs of farmer families,” he said.

The Nandini price revision comes shortly after Amul announced a similar hike in select ghee and butter products. The dairy major has increased the prices of its regular and cow ghee variants across different pack sizes. Butter has also become costlier, with both the 100-gram and 500-gram packs seeing price revisions.
