HC ruling on MUDA: Siddaramaiah to fight legally; DKS says no question of CM quitting
The Modi govt is carrying out a conspiracy to punish the government of Opposition parties by misusing the Raj Bhavan across the country, says Siddaramaiah
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has strongly opposed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “revenge politics” after the high court upheld the governor’s sanction to proceed against him over alleged corruption.
Facing possible prosecution in connection with the alleged Mysuru land scam, Siddaramaiah said on Tuesday (September 24) he had firm belief in the law and the Constitution and was sure that truth would finally triumph.
Siddaramaiah blasts Modi
“This is a fight against the revenge politics of the Narendra Modi-led BJP government. Our judicial struggle against this revenge politics of the BJP and JD(S) will continue. I have faith in the court,” he posted on X.
“The central government led by Narendra Modi is carrying out a conspiracy to punish the government of the opposition parties by misusing the Raj Bhavan across the country,” he said.
The chief minister indicated he intends to mount further legal challenges to the governor's sanction.
Further legal challenge
"I will consult with experts on whether such an investigation is allowed under the law or not... I am confident the investigation — under 17A — will be cancelled."
He pointed out that the Karnataka High Court had rejected the governor’s nod for prosecution under Section 218 of the BNSS and only confined itself to Section 17A.
“I am confident that the truth will come out in the next few days and the investigation under 17A will be cancelled,” he said in a defiant tone. “The people of the state are behind me in this political struggle.”
‘The scam is a sham’
He maintained that the BJP and its ally, the JD(S), had “resorted to political retaliation against me because I am pro-poor and fighting for social justice".
Siddaramaiah again dubbed the alleged Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) land scam a "sham" and ripped into Opposition leaders from the BJP who demanded that he quit.
The BJP wanted him to resign because it had no answer to his welfare schemes, he said.
Operation Kamala
"The leaders asking for my resignation (today) are the same who opposed schemes implemented by me for the poor and oppressed people... the people of Karnataka did not give the BJP majority to come to power on its own, so it has to win power by conducting 'Operation Kamala (Lotus)," he said.
The 'Operation Kamala' jibe was a reference to Congress's claims that the BJP seeks to destabilise elected governments by targeting senior leaders from ruling parties and unsettling their administration. When questioned about BJP demanding CM's resignation over the high court's order, Shivakumar said: "There is no question, the CM has not done anything wrong. He is not involved in any scam. It is a political conspiracy by the BJP against all opposition leaders in the country, this is what is going on."
Shivakumar, who is also the state Congress president, said he and his party stand in support of the chief minister, who is doing a good job for the party and the state.
