Leopard spotted crossing Bengaluru flyover: Tech hub on high alert

CCTV footage captures wild cat's late-night stroll, leading to increased security and precautionary checks at local training centre

Early on Tuesday morning (September 17), a leopard was sighted in Bengaluru, crossing a flyover near a toll plaza at around 3 am in the city's Electronic City, a prominent tech hub. Authorities have heightened vigilance in the area following this sighting.

The leopard's movements were recorded by the CCTV camera at the Phase 1 toll plaza. The footage shows the wild cat’s silhouette as it crossed the road before retreating in the opposite direction. It appears to have travelled from the Panak India Company area to the Nettur Technical Training Foundation (NTTF) grounds.

Second sighting

This incident follows a recent sighting of a leopard in Bengaluru’s Jigani area, leading officials and police to believe that it might be the same animal.

Sunil Joshi, Principal of NTTF, said, "We received an alert from the camera at the toll gate indicating that a leopard had passed near the compound wall. We conducted precautionary checks on the campus. Forest department officials also came to verify and confirmed that no leopard was observed. A camera image suggested its movement from the compound wall, prompting us to take necessary precautions, given that this is a training centre."

'Subsequent location unknown'

Joshi added, "We have thoroughly inspected all rooms and reviewed CCTV footage, but there are no signs of the leopard on our premises. It was seen walking near the pathway by the compound, but its subsequent location remains unknown."

The institute has resumed normal operations after implementing the recommended safety measures.
