After the video of the horrific incident went viral, the police investigated and arrested six men who were identified in the woman's complaint


Six men who assaulted a 38-year-old woman, Shabina Banu, with sticks, pipes, and clubs outside a mosque in Karnataka's Davanagere were arrested after a video of the horrific incident went viral

According to reports, Shabina Banu, along with her relative Nasreen (32) and a man named Fayaz, was summoned to the local mosque, Jama Masjid in Channagiri taluk in Davanagere, over a domestic dispute. The summons was due to a complaint filed by her husband Jameel Ahmed Shameer against her and a relative.

The assault and arrest

When she arrived at the mosque, a group of men reportedly assaulted Shabina with sticks and clubs and attempted to hit her with stones as well. The video of the incident sparked widespread outrage and compelled the police to act.

Shabina Banu had made the formal complaint on April 11, 2025, and the Channagiri police quicky investigated the matter and tracked down the suspects.

The six suspects who have been arrested are Mohammad Niyaz, Mohammad Gauspeer, Chand Basha, Inayat Ullah, Dastagir, and Rasool TR.

Shabina's complaint

In her complaint, Shabina, employed as a house help, claimed that her relative Nasreen had visited her on April 7. After spending the day outside with Shabina's children, they returned home.

While Shabina was resting, a male visitor Fayaz had visited Nasreen. At this point, Shabina’s husband Jameel Ahmed Shameer, returned home to find Nasreen and Fayaz at the house. He was reportedly upset and filed a complaint at the local mosque, which led to this incident.

After Shabina's complaint, a special investigation team was constituted, and the accused were traced. Police is further investigating the matter.
