Bengaluru man threatens acid attack on woman over her clothes, fired from job
A case has been registered and the company's prompt response garnered praise from many on social media
A man in Bengaluru has been dismissed from his job, and a legal case has been initiated against him for allegedly threatening to throw acid on a woman.
The threat reportedly came after the accused, Nikith Shetty, objected to the woman's choice of clothing, according to her husband's complaint.
Shahbaz Ansar, who is a journalist, reported the threat on X (formerly Twitter) and tagged the Karnataka authorities including the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, and Director General of Police (DGP).
He wrote, "This individual is threatening to throw acid on my wife's face because of her clothing choices. Please take immediate action to prevent any potential harm."
Following this post, X users identified Shetty's workplace, prompting swift action. The company, Etios Digital Services, posted a statement on Instagram confirming that Shetty had been dismissed from service for five years and a case had been filed against him.

What company said
"We are deeply saddened to address a serious incident involving one of our employees, Nikith Shetty, who made a threatening statement regarding another individual’s choice of clothing. This behaviour is absolutely unacceptable and goes against the core values we uphold at Etios Services," the company stated. "As a company committed to fostering a safe and respectful environment, we have taken immediate action. Nikith's employment has been terminated for a period of five years, and we have filed a case against him to ensure accountability for his actions."
Further, it said, "At Etios Services, we believe in promoting respect and dignity for all individuals. We stand firmly against any form of harassment or violence. Our commitment to creating a safe workplace is unwavering, and we will continue to take all necessary measures to uphold this standard. Ansar also thanked everyone on social media. "The man who threatened my wife with an acid attack has lost his job. The company took swift action and dismissed him. Thanks to everyone who played a part in this," he said.

Under Section 124 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), acid attacks and similar crimes carry harsh penalties, including life imprisonment and fines to cover the medical expenses of victims who suffer permanent damage or severe injury.
