Bengaluru rains: 2 children feared drowned; many areas flooded, boats used to rescue people
Several areas in northern Bengaluru are flooded; in Yelahanka, residents were being evacuated by boat
Two children, a brother and a sister are suspected to have drowned in the Kengeri lake in Bengaluru, as heavy rains wreaked havoc in Bengaluru flooding large parts of the tech city.
Particularly, many areas of northern Bengaluru are under water due to the continuous heavy rain, which also led to disruptions in flight operations at the Kempegowda International Airport at Devanahalli.
Passengers taking flights faced a lot of challenges to reach the airport due to the traffic congestion and waterlogging on the roads on Monday (October 21) night. After 9 pm, over 20 flights were delayed; IndiGo flights from Delhi, Hyderabad, and Chandigarh, and the Air India flight from Delhi were diverted to Chennai.
Bengaluru city experienced heavy rainfall on Monday night, which led to extensive flooding.

Two children missing
The heavy downpour in Bengaluru seems to have claimed the lives of two children, a boy and a girl living with their mother in a slum next to the lake. They have been missing since Monday evening, police sources said.
Police have launched a search operation.

Apartments flooded
Meanwhile, according to residents in Kodigehalli, the Doddabommasandra Lake breached and many houses were flooded in Kodigehalli with upto six feet of water. Residents were stranded without power, water supply, or food in several areas.
In Kodigehalli, water entered a residential complex after a wall collapsed, apartment basements were flooded. Moreover, in Yelahanka, residents were being evacuated by boat as heavy rainfall continued to cause severe waterlogging in several parts of the city.
Waterlogging was reported at Kodigehalli and Yelahanka underpasses, New BEL Layout, Tata Nagar, Bhadrappa Layout, and Hebbal Sarovara Layout. Major junctions like the Silk Board are heavily waterlogged, while Sarjapur Main Road also witnessed severe traffic congestion due to waterlogging,
The Meteorological department predicted more rain and a generally cloudy sky with thundershowers till October 24.
