“Given the prevailing political climate and potential threats to her safety, I request you to consider extending 'Y' category security," Raja of Congress said

Citing threats to her safety amid a property row with brother and former chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Congress in Andhra Pradesh wants ‘Y’ category police security for its state president YS Sharmila.

SN Raja, general secretary of the party in Andhra Pradesh, made the request to Director General of Police (DGP) Dwaraka Tirumala Rao.

Congress plea

"Sharmila Reddy, being a prominent political figure and the leader of a major political party in Andhra Pradesh, has been at the forefront of various public movements, rallies and campaigns,” Raja said in a letter to Rao.

“Given the prevailing political climate and the potential threats to her safety, I kindly request you to consider extending 'Y' category security," he said.

Security in Telangana

Sharmila, who lives in Hyderabad, currently enjoys 'Y' category security in Telangana. Raja urged Rao to extend the same protection for her in Andhra Pradesh too.

Raja referred to Sharmila’s public and political activities in Andhra Pradesh, where she is locked in a blazing row with Jagan Mohan Reddy over property and assets left behind by their father, former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy.

More security, please

According to Raja, the extension of the 'Y ' category security would "ensure her (Sharmila) protection and safety as she continues her important work".

He also urged the police chief to enhance Sharmila's security from 2 + 2 to 4 + 4 to handle potential threats, particularly during large public gatherings and political events.
