Kanpur woman’s body found months after gym trainer 'killed' her, buried body Drishyam-style

Police said the trainer had buried the body near the District Collector’s house thinking that would be the last place where police would launch a search

In a crime that shows how movie plots at times come in handy for criminals to trick law enforcement agencies, a gym trainer in Uttar Pradesh Kanpur district, arrested for the murder of a female client he was in relationship with, has confessed to have buried her body near the residence of the district magistrate after taking inspiration from the film Drishyam.

Police recovered the body of 32-year-old Ekta Gupta from a club near the magistrate’s house on Sunday (October 27) after the gym trainer, Vishal Soni, gave information about the location. The body was dug out four months after she was murdered. She had gone missing on June 24.

Spat over trainer’s engagement

Soni, who runs a gym in the Green Park area of Kanpur, was arrested by police after the woman’s husband, a businessman, filed a complaint against him.

After being grilled by police, the trainer reportedly confessed that he was in a relationship with the woman and had killed her after she objected to his engagement with another woman.

DCP (North Kanpur) Shravan Kumar Singh told the media that Ekta, who was upset with Soni’s decision to marry another woman, had come to the gym on June 24 after a break of 20 days and the duo had sat inside a car to sort things out. It is there that Soni allegedly punched Ekta in the neck, causing her to faint and subsequently murdered her.

Real-life thriller

Taking cue from the Ajay Devgn-starrer film Drishyam, Soni had buried her body near the Kanpur District Magistrate’s residence, thinking that it would be the last place police would search to locate the body.
