Twisha Sharma's post-mortem report reveals hanging as cause of death
Twisha Sharma's post-mortem report says death was caused by antemortem hanging and notes multiple blunt force injuries amid an ongoing probe
The post-mortem report of Twisha Sharma (33), who was found dead earlier this month, has revealed that she died because of "antemortem hanging by ligature," or being suspended by a cord, rope, or cloth wrapped around the neck. It further stated that multiple injuries on different parts of her body caused by blunt force were found.
Details from post-mortem
The post-mortem, conducted at the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology at AIIMS Bhopal, further revealed that the deceased was found hanging from a gymnastic ring rope on the terrace of her home at around 10:26 pm on May 12, adding that she was declared dead shortly after midnight on May 13.

The post-mortem stated that a double reddish patterned ligature mark was found running obliquely around the upper third of the neck, reported ANI.
The report further recorded several findings associated with asphyxia and noted facial congestion along with bluish discolouration of the ears and fingernails. It also mentioned the presence of “petechial haemorrhages” in the right eye, described as tiny pinpoint red, purple or brown spots that can appear on the skin or mucous membranes in such cases.
Injuries and medical findings
According to the findings, abrasions were found on the left side of the neck while bruises were noted over the left upper arm, left forearm, right wrist and right ring finger.
The report further stated that a bruise measuring 2 cm x 2 cm was found beneath the scalp in the left frontoparietal region, an area involving portions of the left frontal and left parietal lobes of the brain.

Doctors observed two small bruised patches in tissues located beneath the ligature mark. The lungs also showed "Tardieu's spots," a finding commonly associated with cases of asphyxiation.
Congestion was observed in the brain, lungs and stomach lining. It also mentioned a history of Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) carried out one week before her death.
Samples sent for examination
The medical board concluded that hanging was the cause of death, while other injuries appeared to be simple antemortem injuries caused by blunt force.
The report added that blood samples, viscera, nail clippings and hair samples had been preserved and sent for toxicology and DNA examination at the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) to rule out intoxication and aid the ongoing investigation.
SIT continues search for accused
Meanwhile, police said a Special Investigation Team (SIT) and local teams continue efforts to apprehend the accused in the case. "Regarding the lookout notice, necessary correspondence has been initiated with the DCP office, Bhopal Commissionerate, and the Regional Passport Office,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police Rajnish Kashyap Kaul.

"Our SIT team, along with local teams, is actively engaged. We are gathering intelligence through both technical means and human sources. The DCP has also announced a reward," he added.
Police had earlier announced a reward of Rs 10,000 for information leading to the arrest of Samarth Singh, the prime accused in the case. Twisha Sharma, a resident of Noida, married Bhopal resident Samarth Singh in December 2025. Her family has alleged mental torture and dowry harassment by her in-laws. Police have registered a case and constituted an SIT to investigate the matter.
