CBI team reaches Twisha Sharma’s in-laws’ house in Bhopal amid death probe
The agency has registered an FIR against Twisha Sharma’s husband Samarth Singh and mother-in-law, invoking dowry death and cruelty charges after taking over the investigation
A CBI team arrived at the Katara Hills residence of retired judge Giribala Singh in Bhopal on May 26 to conduct a probe into the death of her daughter-in-law, Twisha Sharma. The team, which included women personnel, was seen entering the premises while media persons who followed them were prevented from going inside.
Agency formally takes over the case
The Central Bureau of Investigation on May 25 took over the probe into the death of former model-turned-actor Twisha Sharma, who was allegedly found hanging at her marital home on May 12. The CBI registered an FIR against her lawyer husband Samarth Singh and mother-in-law Giribala Singh, and sent a Special Crime Unit to Bhopal to collect documents and evidence.

Dowry death, cruelty sections invoked
The CBI re-registered the state police FIR as its own case, invoking sections 80(2) (dowry death), 85 (cruelty by husband or his relatives) and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with provisions of the Dowry Prohibition Act — the same sections levelled by state police.
Family alleges torture over dowry demands
Twisha's family alleged she was tormented by her in-laws, who were dissatisfied with the dowry paid at the time of their marriage on December 9, 2025. They accused the in-laws of mental torture and domestic violence, which they say pushed the 33-year-old to take the extreme step. Her mother-in-law, however, has questioned Twisha's medical treatment and mental state in media interviews.
Samarth Singh was arrested in Jabalpur on Friday after absconding for 10 days. A Bhopal court on Saturday sent him to seven-day police remand.
AIIMS doctors conduct second postmortem
On May 24, a team of doctors from AIIMS-Delhi conducted a second postmortem of Twisha in Bhopal, following directions from the Madhya Pradesh High Court, after her parents raised serious concerns about procedural lapses by local authorities.
