She noticed that there were three to four attackers. After her husband was killed, she faced one of the terrorists and said, 'Mere pati ko mara hai na, mujhe bhi maaro' (You've killed my husband, kill me too). Her son too confronted him and said, 'Kutte, mere papa ko maara, humein bhi maar daalo' (You dog, you killed my father, kill us too), she shared.
"The terrorist replied, 'Nahin marenge. Tum Modi ko jaake bolo' (I won't kill you Go and tell Modi)," Pallavi said.
Hindus targetted
Her cab driver had told her that Hindus were being targeted. They were helped by three others, who kept muttering ‘Bismillah' and helped them to a safe place.
Further, she said that the terrorists were not in army uniforms and largely targeted all the men. There were many newlywed couples, and in most cases, only the husbands were attacked while women and the others were spared.
“Hindus were targeted. There were around 500 tourists around,” she said.
Holiday turned into a nightmare
The three had gone to Pahalgam on horseback. Since her son had not eaten anything since morning, her husband went to get him some bread.
They heard gunfire shots and thought it was the army. People started running but her husband had already collapsed and was lying in a pool of blood. “He had been shot in the head. I sat beside his body, unable to react," she added.
Pallavi, a bank manager, was emphatic that she wanted to return to her hometown, Shivamogga only with her husband's body. She pleaded with the authorities that her husband's body be airlifted and all three return home together. Her husband had been a realtor.
They had gone on a holiday to Kashmir on April 19, and were supposed to return on April 24.
Meanwhile, Manjunath's family in Shivamogga are shocked by the turn of events and his mother has not been informed about the death of her son.
