Ganderbal terror attack: Militants were heavily armed, wanted maximum casualties, say cops

Militants who opened indiscriminate gunfire and killed six employees of a company and a doctor in Jammu and Kashmir's Ganderbal district were heavily armed and wanted to cause “maximum casualties”, police said.
The horrific massacre took place on Sunday (October 20) evening near Sonamarg on the Srinagar-Leh national highway.
Gunmen disconnected power before attack
The victims were having dinner when the gunmen, said to be two in number, struck, taking everyone by surprise, media reports quoted police sources as saying.

The militants reportedly first snapped the electricity connection to the place where the construction workers were staying and then launched the attack, targeting the mess too.
The victims were identified as Faheem Nasir, Mohammad Hanif and Kaleem from Bihar, Anil Shukla from Madhya Pradesh, Gurmeeet Singh from Punjab as well as Sashi Abrol from Jammu.
Dr Shahnawaz, a doctor from Budgam in Kashmir was also killed in the attack.

Militants were heavily armed, say police
“It seems they (militants) were heavily armed and were at the camp office for quite a good amount of time,” a police officer was quoted as saying.
“From what we hear from the workers, it seems the attack was aimed at causing maximum casualties,” the officer added.
Police sources said a National Investigation Agency (NIA) team had reached the site and was most likely to take over the investigation.
