IAF officer, army captain wife die by suicide on same day, in different cities

Police only found a suicide note in which the army officer in Delhi wrote she wanted to be cremated with her IAF officer husband; her husband in Agra left no note

An Indian Air Force (IAF) officer and his army wife allegedly committed suicide, one in Agra and the other in New Delhi on the same day, leaving no immediate clue for the reason for ending their lives.

Colleagues found Flight Lieutenant Deen Dayal Deep, 32, hanging at his quarters at the Kheria Air Force station in Agra on Tuesday.

Army officer leaves note

This was shortly before the body of Capt Renu Tanwar, who had come to Delhi for her mother’s medical treatment, was found at the officers’ mess in Delhi Cantonment on Tuesday morning.

Captain Tanwar was posted at the military hospital in Agra. Police in Delhi recovered a suicide note in which the officer wrote that she wanted to be cremated with her husband. No suicide note was found in the husband’s quarters in Agra.

IAF officer showed no signs of distress

On Monday night, Flight Lieutenant Deep, who was from Nalanda in Bihar, appeared to be normal when he had dinner with his colleagues. He is believed to have “cracked jokes” and engaged in conversation with them, the station staff told police. He bid them good night and returned to his quarters “without showing any signs of distress or worry”, they added.

When he didn’t wake up late into Tuesday, the staff broke down the door to find him dead.
