Delhi police to probe Swiss national’s murder from human trafficking angle
The officials probing the ghastly murder have arrived at the conclusion after they seized Rs. 2 crore cash in a raid at the residence of the accused
With the Delhi police finding crores of rupees lying in the bank accounts of Gurpreet Singh, an accused in the murder of Swiss national Nina Berger, even as they found Rs. 2 crore when they raided Singh's home in West Delhi, police investigators are probing the case from a human-trafficking angle now.
The police found Berger’s body in Tilak Nagar of West Delhi on Friday (October 20) and after examining CCTV footage of the area, they arrested Singh, according to media reports.
Delhi police officials probing the murder of the 30-year-old Swiss woman have found photographs and contact numbers of several women on the mobile phone of the accused. Singh drove a car that was bought using the Aadhaar card of a sex worker, a media report said quoting police sources involved in the probe. This has led the police to probe if Singh was involved in human trafficking.
Apart from seizing Rs. 2 crore cash from his home after the raids, officials have found several crores of rupees lying in his bank accounts and have approached other agencies to widen the probe and ascertain the source of funds in his accounts. The officials also seized three firearms, ammunition, 12 SIMs, and four cell phones during the raids on Singh’s residence, according to media reports.
Singh, 33, a resident of Janakpuri, met Berger on a dating app after which he visited Switzerland many times. He wanted to marry her and invited Berger to India. He strangulated her to death after she refused to marry him as he suspected she was having an affair with someone else. The West Delhi police probed the case on the basis of the documents found on her person and zeroed in on Singh after analysing the CCTV footage of the area where Singh had dumped her body.
Berger's family members have not yet approached the police.
