NewsClick journalists face Delhi police raid; laptops, phones seized

Delhi Police has started massive raids on the properties of journalists and other employees linked to NewsClick because of the news portal’s alleged links with China.
No arrests have been made yet.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had also conducted raids at the firm’s premises earlier, probing its sources of funding. The Special Cell is conducting raids on the basis of inputs provided by the ED.
The Delhi Police’s Special Cell on Tuesday (October 3) launched the raids across Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad. It has reportedly registered a case under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
During the raids, the Special Cell reportedly seized electronic evidence in the form of dump data of laptops and mobile phones, and hard disks owned by some journalists of NewsClick.
The Special Cell has registered a new case and started investigation, officials said.
Abhisar Sharma, a senior journalist, wrote on X (Twitter), “Delhi police landed at my home. Taking away my laptop and phone.”
The Press Club of India posted on X that it was “deeply concerned about the multiple raids conducted on the houses of journalists and writers associated with NewsClick”.
“We are monitoring the developments and will be releasing a detailed statement,” it said.
