Delhi Police Assistant Commissioner of Police Manasvi Vashistha, who joined a protest by personnel outside the Police Headquarters against the transfer of two officers, including himself, was suspended, police sources said on Tuesday (November 3).

The suspension comes amid controversy over the protest, in which police personnel gathered outside the headquarters seeking revocation of transfer orders. The action against the ACP was taken in connection with the incident, said the police source, adding that further details were awaited.

There was no immediate official statement from the Delhi Police on the suspension.

Around 150 Delhi Police personnel, including women officers, staged a protest against the transfer of ACP Vashishta and Arun Kumar, the station house officer of the Shahdara police station, following a confrontation between police and lawyers at Shahdara police station.

The protesting cops called for the duo's reinstatement to their previous postings.

A delegation of police personnel met Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar and submitted five demands, which included action against lawyers involved in the Shahdara incident, and registration of FIRs against lawyers who indulge in "hooliganism."

The two officers were transferred out after city lawyers called for an indefinite strike over the handling of an assault case of a lawyer Lalit Bansal.

The lawyers, who had gone on strike last week, had alleged that the ACP and the SHO threatened advocates who had gone to the police station to seek action against the accused in the Bansal assault case.
