A newly-opened cafe in Bihar's Nalanda district has become an unlikely social media sensation, thanks to its unusual name — 'Cockroach Cafe'. Located on the Hilsa Bypass, the eatery has been attracting visitors and online attention, with many users sharing photos and jokes about the cafe's unconventional branding.

One of the most widely shared quips online reads: "Now if you find a bug in your food, you can't even complain."

Branding with a difference

Despite its eyebrow-raising name, the cafe presents a modern ambience with black-themed interiors, yellow hanging lights, artificial vines and flowers, black rattan sofas with red cushions, and glass tables. Potted plants, colourful walls, and cosy seating have also made it a popular spot for youngsters to gather for tea, snacks, and social media reels.

Speaking to NDTV, the owner said the name was deliberately chosen to stand out in a crowded market.

"There are hundreds of places called 'Royal Cafe', but only one 'Cockroach Cafe'. We wanted something that would make people smile and grab their attention. People may come because of the name, but they will stay because of the quality," he said.

He stressed that hygiene remains a top priority and described the name as a branding strategy designed to generate publicity without spending heavily on advertising.

Mixed reactions, growing popularity

The unusual branding has divided opinion. While many social media users have praised it as a bold marketing move, others have questioned whether the name could put customers off.

Local resident Rakesh said he initially thought the cafe was a prank before deciding to visit.

"I was surprised by the name, but the place is clean and perfect for taking selfies," he said.

Opened just three days ago, the cafe currently serves tea, coffee, Maggi, sandwiches, and cold drinks at affordable prices. Its rapid rise to online fame underscores how a distinctive identity can quickly capture public attention in the age of social media.
