100 days of Bengal BJP govt: Will face public 'test' after 1 year, says CM Suvendu
"On May 9, 2027, I will complete one year in office. That day, I will sit for an exam. You will give me marks in that exam. If I do not score 9 out of 10, I will accept my failure," Suvendu Adhikari said
Purulia, Aug 17 (PTI) On the 100th day of his government in West Bengal, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Monday said he would face a "test" before the people on completion of his first year in office in May 2027 and accept his "failure" if he cannot score at least nine out of 10.
Addressing a programme in Purulia after inaugurating a drinking water project, Adhikari said, "On May 9, 2027, I will complete one year in office. That day, I will sit for an exam. You will give me marks in that exam. If I do not score 9 out of 10, I will accept my failure. But you yourselves will say that you entrusted the responsibility to the right person and the right party. Have faith and trust us," Adhikari said.
Expressing confidence that his government would meet people's expectations, he added, "That day, you will say that you chose the right person. Have faith in us, give us time, and we will work for your welfare." "I will appear before the people's court in May 2027 and let the people judge my work," Adhikari said.
His remarks come on a day his government completed 100 days in office. To mark the occasion, the BJP has released a 41-page booklet titled "100 Days of Resolve and Achievements of the West Bengal Government", highlighting what it describes as the administration's achievements in investment, welfare delivery, administrative reforms, women's safety and economic empowerment.
Party leaders and elected representatives are expected to distribute the booklet during a door-to-door campaign. The booklet details the government's work in areas including investment, delivery of welfare schemes, administrative reforms, women's safety and economic empowerment, according to the party.
It also highlights the implementation of various central government schemes, which the BJP claims people in West Bengal had been deprived of under the previous administration.
The chief minister said the next nine months would be crucial for his government to deliver on its commitments before he faces the people on May 9 next year.
The proposed public assessment, he said, would be based not on political claims but on the work carried out by his government.
Adhikari said nearly 30 lakh new houses would be constructed in the state under the Awas Yojana, asserting that there would be no scope for extortion, syndicate politics or cuts in the implementation of government housing schemes.
Addressing the programme in Manbazar in Purulia to launch the drinking water project, Adhikari said the government would ensure that benefits reached eligible people without corruption.
"If anyone asks for even one rupee for the construction of a house, inform me. There will be no house without a roof in Jangalmahal," the chief minister said.
Adhikari accused the previous Trinamool Congress government of large-scale irregularities in the implementation of housing schemes and said his government would ensure transparency in the process.
He also said all illegal sand mining ghats in the state would be legalised and that beneficiaries constructing houses under the state housing scheme and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana would get sand at Rs 1,200.
On employment, Adhikari said nearly one lakh people, including teachers and police personnel, would be recruited by 2027.
"Recruitment will be carried out transparently," he said. PTI
