
Chhattisgarh woman tortured by estranged husband, forced to drink urine before children
A woman in Chhattisgarh's Koriya district alleged brutal abuse by her estranged husband, including assault, head shaving and humiliation. The accused has been arrested
She was allegedly accused of having extra-marital affairs, her head was shaved, and face blackened with soot, assaulted and forced to drink urine by her estranged husband as her four children watched in fear. The accused also forced her children to slap and make her drink urine before making her do the degrading act himself.
Allegations of brutal abuse
The brutal act was committed by Jitendra Ghasia, whom the victim Tara married 15 years ago. The incident took place in Chhattisgarh's Koriya district.

The victim’s married life was marred by discord, alleged abuse and financial hardship. Unable to withstand it anymore, she started living separately and worked as a domestic help to earn a livelihood.
The victim alleged that on June 14, her husband came to know that she was living at the residence of an acquaintance who stood by her in her ordeal. Ghasia reached the spot and called her outside. As soon as she came out, Ghasia started abusing her and accused her of having illicit affairs.
Victim recounts torture
The victim told police that he tied her hands and feet and inflicted brutal torture on her. "He cut my hair, shaved my head, blackened my face with soot and engine oil, beat me and forced me to drink urine. I was threatened that I would be burned alive," she said as quoted by NDTV.

The accused did not stop at this. The victim said that he forced the children to get involved in the assault and asked them to repeatedly slap her. He even forced one of the children to make her drink urine before making her do the act himself.
In a purported video of the incident,, the accused is repeatedly heard claiming that his wife abandoned her family and is living with other men. He further alleged that she had earlier eloped with his brother-in-law and later with a nephew before coming back to him.
Denies husband's allegations
Denying the allegation, the victim told the police that her husband had long suspected her character and frequently assaulted her.
“I was beaten earlier too. They suspected me from the beginning. They also demanded dowry. After giving birth to four children, I underwent sterilisation. I want justice, and I want him punished," she said.

Following her complaint, police initially registered an FIR under multiple provisions of the BNS,, including Section 85 (Cruelty by husband), Section 115(2) (Voluntarily causing hurt), Section 296 (Obscene acts and abuse) and Section 351(2) (Criminal intimidation).
Additional charges added
However, after the video of the assault surfaced, police said more serious sections are being added,, and the accused has been arrested following the complaint.
Elaborating further, Koriya Additional Superintendent of Police Suresha Chaubey said that initially,, the woman mainly complained of physical assault and harassment by her husband after he consumed alcohol.
"After the video came to light and further facts emerged, additional legal provisions are being added. The accused will be produced before the court and sent on remand," added Chaubey.
