The Brazilian's brace against Scotland puts him level with Mbappe and Haaland in a high-stakes race decided by fine margins
Argentina star Lionel Messi tops the FIFA World Cup 2026 Golden Boot standings at the end of the 14th day, having five to his credit. Brazilian Vinicius Junior jumped to the joint second spot by scoring a brace against Scotland in Philadelphia on Wednesday (June 24), which took his tally to four, alongside France's Kylian Mbappe and Norway's Erling Haaland.

Five players were placed next with three goals. They include Matheus Cunha (Brazil), Jonathan David (Canada), Deniz Undav (Germany), Ismail Saibari (Morocco) and Johan Manzambi (Switzerland).
Nineteen players have scored two goals while 80 have scored one.
Who gets the Golden Boot?
The Golden Boot will be awarded to the player who scores the maximum goals in the tournament. If two or more players score the same number of goals, the number of assists (as determined by the members of the FIFA Technical Study Group) shall be decisive. If names cannot be separated still, the total minutes played in the tournament will be considered, with the player appearing for fewer minutes being ranked before the others.
