A SpiceJet passenger was stuck inside an aircraft lavatory for around an hour due to malfunctioning of the door lock and was rescued after the plane landed

In an unfortunate mid-air incident on Tuesday (January 17), a SpiceJet passenger was stuck inside an aircraft lavatory for around an hour due to malfunctioning of the door lock.

The incident occurred on board the flight from Mumbai to Bengaluru on Tuesday, and the airline is providing a full refund to the passenger, a SpiceJet spokesperson.

Soon after landing at the Bengaluru airport, an engineer opened the lavatory door and the passenger came out.

Details about the passenger could not be immediately ascertained.

The airline has apologised for the inconvenience caused to the passenger and promised a full refund.

"On 16 January, a passenger unfortunately got stuck inside the lavatory for about an hour on SpiceJet flight operating from Mumbai to Bengaluru, while the aircraft was airborne due to a malfunction in the door lock.

"Throughout the journey, our crew provided assistance and guidance to the passenger. Upon arrival, an engineer opened the lavatory door, and the passenger received immediate medical support," the spokesperson said in a statement on Wednesday.

Crew slipped in note under toilet door

Meanwhile a note slipped under the toilet door by a worried crew has gone viral on social media. In the note, purportedly meant for the trapped passenger, the staff tell the passenger that their attempts to open the door were in vain and urge him to keep calm as help will arrive soon.

“Sir, we tried our best to open the door. However, we could not open. Do not panic, we are landing in a few minutes. So please close the commode lid and sit on it and secure yourself. As soon as the main door is open, engineer will come. Do not panic (sic),” the note says.
