Shah asks Rahul to debate SIR in Parliament, takes swipe for Congress' electoral defeats

The Union Home Minister that if Rahul keeps insisting on gathering people on the streets, the BJP will give him a fitting reply

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday (November 5) lashed out at Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi for challenging Prime Minister Narendra Modi to a debate and said that if he wants a debate on the SIR, the BJP-led government is ready to convene a special session of the Parliament for it adding that debates are held in the Parliament and not on the streets.

Addressing a rally during the BJP's 'Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy' foot march in Karnal, Haryana, Shah took a swipe at the Congress for its repeated electoral defeats in Lok Sabha elections in 2014, 2019, and 2024 despite no SIR being held at that time.

"Where was the SIR in 2014? You were completely wiped out even then. Where was SIR in 2019? You lost. There was no SIR in 2024 either, yet you lost again. There was no SIR in Haryana or Maharashtra...You lost everywhere. You do not allow Parliament to function, and instead gather crowds on the streets to spread chaos, much like anarchy. You're just creating a ruckus and staging boycotts in Parliament," said Shah as quoted by NDTV.

Targets Rahul over opposition rally

The Union Home Minister further stated that if Rahul keeps insisting on gathering people on the streets, the BJP will give him a fitting reply.

"The people of the country have consistently defeated Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party. The people of the country are not with you or the Opposition alliance. You called people from across the entire country to Delhi, appealed to 10 lakh people; the ground's capacity is only 70,000, and even that was half empty," said Shah.

Taking a swipe at Rahul, Shah said that while the people of the country have elected Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the third time with a massive mandate, the Congress since 2024 have suffered repeated electoral defeats under Rahul’s leadership.

‘BJP will counter opposition across platforms’

Shah said that the BJP will counter the Opposition in every sphere including the Parliament, Legislative Assemblies and on the streets.

"Do you truly believe that an 80-year-old democracy will fall for your deceptions? Rahul ji, we are the people of the streets. The BJP will provide a fitting response to you in Parliament, in the Legislative Assemblies, in our villages, and in our fields; and should you choose to gather crowds, BJP workers will be there to give you a befitting reply. The 'Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy' rally has served to deliver a strong and decisive response to Rahul Gandhi," said Shah as quoted by ANI.
