Modi speaks to Elon Musk, discusses India-US collaboration in tech, innovation

In a post on X, PM Modi stresses India’s commitment to advancing partnership with US in the said sectors


Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday (April 18) said that he had a discussion with Tesla boss Elon Musk on a variety of issues including collaboration between India and the US in the areas of technology and innovation.

Musk is considered one of the most influential persons in the Donald Trump administration and is spearheading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) aimed at cutting government expenditure and reducing federal workforce.

‘Immense potential for collaboration’

Sharing details about the telephonic conversation on his X handle, Modi said India is committed to advancing its partnership with the US in technology and innovation.

“Spoke to @elonmusk and talked about various issues, including the topics we covered during our meeting in Washington DC earlier this year. We discussed the immense potential for collaboration in the areas of technology and innovation. India remains committed to advancing our partnerships with the US in these domains,” the prime minister’s post said.

February meeting

Modi said the latest chat with the SpaceX chief covered topics discussed during their meeting in February this year. During the Indian prime minister’s visit to the US, the duo had held discussions on the areas of space, mobility, technology and innovation.

“Had a very good meeting with Elon Musk in Washington DC. We discussed various issues, including those he is passionate about such as space, mobility, technology and innovation. I talked about India’s efforts towards reform and furthering ‘Minimum Government, Maximum Governance,” Modi had posted on X after his meeting then.

What added a personal touch to the meeting was the presence of Musk’s three children at the event and his gift of a heatshield tile to Prime Minister Modi.
